2016 Chairmans Cup

As part of the celebrations of the 130 years since the foundation of Turloughmore Hurling Club, the 60th anniversary of the 1956 Turloughmore County Senior Championship Winners and the 50th anniversary of the last of the 6 in a row senior Championship winners, the adult members of THC participated in the inaguaral "Chairman's Cup" in Lackagh on Saturday 12th November. This novel inter-club tournament took place between representative teams from the four corners of the Turloughmore parish - Cregmore, Coolarne, Knockdoe and Lackagh. Players congregated at the GAA centre in Lackagh from 1pm to participate in two semi finals where Cregmore were pitted against Knockdoe and Lackagh played Coolarne. Many former hurlers came out of retirement to field for their townland including Francis Forde, Padraic Walsh, Patsy Burke, Willie Burke, Michael Holland, Declan Murray, Tom Caulfield and Liam Collins. Former Turloughmore player David Hession (who now resides in Boston) also fielded for the Coolarne side during his vacation to his home of Turloughmore. A great crowd of supporters from the club and community gathered to watch an enjoyable afternoon of hurling where the atmosphere was one of great enjoyment, good banter and a few laughs in-between. Teas, Coffees and refreshments were provided between games to keep everyone warm in what was a cool but dry day at the GAA centre. Cregmore overcame Coolarne in the final and team Captain James Collins accepted the Cup from Turloughmore GAA Chairman Tom Shiel who kindly donated the trophy. A special word of thanks must go to tournament organisers - Tom Caulfield, Joe Hession, Barry Cullinane & James Collins as well as the club officers and members who organised refreshments during the day. Tom Burke, Nigel O' Kane, Martin Keating and Brendan Keane manned the sidelines for the day with Stephen Doyle refereeing the semi finals and Adrian Mooney refereeing the final. Well done to all involved in what was a fantastic club, parish and family day in the GAA Centre.
