It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Jimmy Rabbitte, one of Turloughmore’s star past hurlers. Jimmy was educated at Crumlin NS, before going to St Jarlath’s College where he was recognised as one of the best hurlers to go through the School. He went on to play Fitzgibbon hurling for both UCG and UCD, while he played Minor, U21 and Senior for Galway.
Jimmy was involved in 4 of the 6 in a row Successes with Turloughmore – 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966. He captained both Minor and Senior teams during a distinguished Club career. He was a stylish, strong and skilful left handed hurler who was nigh impossible to hook. He was a tremendous Clubman and distance was never an issue when it came to representing his beloved club. He was a former Patron of the Club. Jimmy’s son Seamus won an All Ireland Club football medal with Salthill/Knocknacarra.
As a mark of respect, the GAA Memorabilia and Programme Collectors Fair planned for the Turloughmore GAA Centre this Saturday, 20th May (1pm) has been postponed.
Sadly missed by his wife Catherine, daughters Fiona and Nessa, son Seamus, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, sisters, brother, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Funeral Mass on Saturday at 12 noon, burial afterwards in the New Cemetery, Athenry. Family flowers only by request. Donations, if desired, to Galway Hospice Foundation.
